EXi was founded as iPrescribe Exercise by Carron and Lewis Manning. They are both chartered physiotherapists with a huge amount of experience in the NHS, private practice and elite sport. They had seen first hand that physical activity dramatically improves the prognosis of people with chronic conditions. We helped them launch an MVP which helped iPrescribe Exercise secure several rounds of investment and grow their business.
Carron and Lewis came to us with a great deal of experience and masses of documentation about exercise plans. They were determined to offer everyone a personalised exercise prescription, specific to their needs and conditions. The app needed to help users gradually build up physical activity, improve their health and quality of life. To do this we needed to understand the exclusions and contraindications of different diseases that should influence the algorithm.
Our design challenge was to take their complex medical approach and turn it into something simple to use. We created a set of interfaces to allow users to build an accurate health profile alongside a set of tools to allow them to exercise safely. The algorithm would incrementally modify their exercise prescription along with their increased fitness. The app provides users with visual feedback, support and motivation to carry on.
Based on scientific evidence and medical guidelines, EXi allows users to gradually and safely increase their activity levels. It helps those who are sedentary or at risk from developing long term health conditions to become more active. This helps reduce their disease risk.
EXi was designed for people who have multiple long-term health conditions and could be at risk of others. Health conditions include:

EXi won GSK's global Transform the Future of Self-Care competition in 2019. The app has been recommended by the:
In the last few years iPrescribe has received several rounds of investment and was rebranded as EXi - Exercise Prescription. It has continued to grow and the business has built an in house clinical, business, technology and design team. We're happy to have played a key part in launching the business. As EXi moves from startup to scale up we can't wait to see what happens next.
EXi is collaborating with clinical and academic organisations to demonstrate the health benefits of a digital exercise prescription. They are dedicated to empowering people to live active lives safely while also enabling health and fitness professionals to follow best practices. EXi enhances exercise intelligence and helps professionals do it in an effortless manner.
iPrescribe Exercise required the services of a multidisciplinary UX design and app development team. We helped them with user experience design, app development and MVP launch.
